What’s the Fastest Way to Raise Blood Sugar?

There’s nothing subtle about a low blood sugar. Your hands shake, sweat soaks through your shirt, and your brain feels like it is buffering in slow motion. You’re cranky, impatient and desperate for relief, wishing this shaky, sweaty low blood sugar chaos would go away already. Every second feels like an eternity as your only goal becomes raising your blood sugar fast… before you eat everything in sight (and possibly the kitchen sink).

What Raises Blood Sugar Fast?

When your blood sugar is low and your body is screaming, “I need sugar NOW!” It doesn’t want a balanced meal. Fiber? Protein? Healthy fats? Not now, buddy. Right now, your body wants one thing: fast-acting carbohydrates.

Fast-acting carbs are foods or drinks that digest quickly and go straight into your bloodstream to raise blood sugar levels. The fastest option is pure glucose (also called dextrose, if you’re feeling fancy). Products made with pure glucose, like Transcend Glucose Gels, skip the digestion line and head straight to your bloodstream for a near-instant boost for your blood sugar.

Other fast-acting carbs, like juice boxes, fruit snacks or applesauce, can raise blood sugar too, but they work slower. They contain other sugars, like fructose or sucrose, that have to make a pit stop in your liver before turning into glucose. And when you’re low, that delay can feel like an eternity.

How to Raise Your Blood Sugar Fast

Step 1: Grab a Fast-Acting Carb

When your body is screaming for glucose, reach for something that works immediately, like Transcend Glucose Gel. Each pouch contains 8 or 15 grams of pure glucose for the quickest escape from the shaky and cranky chaos before you end up raiding the fridge (or entire kitchen).

Step 2: Wait 15 Minutes to Let Your Blood Sugar Rise

Yes, it feels like the longest 15 minutes of your life, but your body needs time to get glucose into your bloodstream. Try to resist the urge to open another pouch too soon or you risk overcorrecting and sending your blood sugar swinging too high.

💡Hypo-Survival Tip:  CGMs can lag behind real-time blood sugar changes. If your CGM is still saying you’re low after 15 minutes, double check with a finger-stick before reaching for another pouch. Your blood sugar may already be rising even if your CGM hasn’t caught up yet.

Step 3: Recheck Blood Sugar to Make Sure You’re Back in Range

Still low? Repeat steps 1 and 2.

Step 4: Stabilize Your Blood Sugar

Once you're back in range, a small snack can help keep things steady until your next meal.

The Takeaway

Sure, any fast-acting carb can raise your blood sugar, but if you really want to escape “low purgatory” fast, reach for something with pure glucose like Transcend Glucose Gels. When you're sweaty, shaky and eyeing everything edible in sight, you need a quick fix before your low devours your patience (or your kitchen).
